IPD is an infection caused by the bacteria “pneumococcus.” If the infection enters the bloodstream or the membranes covering the brain, it can cause disability and death, especially in young children under 2 years old, as they do not yet have immunity.
When to Get the Vaccine to Prevent IPD
The IPD vaccine is recommended for children from 2 months to 5 years old. It is advised to consult a pediatrician before getting the vaccine.
