Don’t Let Plantar Fasciitis Break Your Spirit

Plantar fasciitis causes pain in the sole and heel of the foot due to inflammation or tearing of the plantar fascia, the ligament connecting the heel to the toes. This condition is related to the pressure exerted on the foot when walking, resulting in heel pain or pain in the arch near the heel. The pain often feels sharp, like stepping on something pointed, and is usually worse in the morning upon waking but may improve with foot exercises. However, it can persist throughout the day, especially after prolonged standing or walking.
Plantar fasciitis can affect anyone but is more common in individuals with the following risk factors:
1. Being overweight
2. Having diabetes or chronic arthritis
3. Athletes who put excessive strain on their feet, such as runners
4. Elderly individuals, especially women
5. Wearing ill-fitting shoes or regularly wearing high heels (particularly women)
This condition can be treated effectively from the early stages through behavior modification, prescribed medication, physical therapy, and temporary use of foot splints.
