World Breast Cancer Day
Breast cancer is the number one silent threat for women worldwide. It can be prevented by regularly performing breast self-exams and visiting a doctor for annual screenings.
Early Symptoms of Breast Cancer
If you experience any of the following symptoms, do not ignore them. It is recommended to see a doctor for a thorough breast cancer screening immediately.
When detected early, breast cancer treatment is most effective and offers better outcomes.
1. A lump in the breast (15–20% of palpable breast lumps are cancerous)
2. Changes in breast size or shape that differ from the norm
3. Skin changes on the breast such as dimpling, wrinkling, thickening, or flaky patches – regular self-exams are important
4. Nipple retraction, itchiness, or redness
5. Discharge or blood from the nipple (20% of nipple bleeding cases are found to be cancer)
6. Breast pain (most breast cancers are painless unless the tumor is large)
7. Swelling in the armpit due to abnormal lymph node enlargement
