Carbon dioxide gas is then introduced through a needle at the incision site to create space in the pelvic cavity. This allows the surgeon to visualize internal organs and perform surgery using a small magnifying telescope inserted through the umbilical incision.<\/li>\n<li>One or two additional small punctures may be made near the pubic hairline to insert surgical instruments for the pelvic procedure.
