RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) or Respiratory Infection Caused by RSV<\/strong><\/h2>\n

RSV is a virus commonly found in young children, especially infants and those under 2 years old. This virus is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infections and may lead to serious complications.<\/p>\n

RSV is a Virus in the Paramyxoviridae Family<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It can spread through contact with respiratory secretions from infected individuals, such as:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  • Runny nose<\/li>\n
  • Phlegm<\/li>\n
  • Droplets from coughing or sneezing<\/li>\n
  • Touching objects or surfaces contaminated with the virus. RSV can survive on surfaces for several hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Symptoms of RSV Infection<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Often resemble a common cold in the early stages<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    • Fever<\/li>\n
    • Cough<\/li>\n
    • Runny nose<\/li>\n
    • Sore throat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Symptoms may worsen, especially in infants and those with weakened immunity, and include:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      • Rapid or difficult breathing, or wheezing<\/li>\n
      • Lethargy or lack of alertness<\/li>\n
      • Poor feeding or refusal to eat<\/li>\n

        Basic Prevention of RSV<\/strong><\/h2>\n

        • Wash hands thoroughly<\/b> with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly<\/li>\n
        • Avoid taking young children to crowded places<\/b> or locations with large groups of people<\/li>\n
        • Clean toys, utensils, and frequently touched items<\/b> regularly<\/li>\n
        • Adults who are sick should avoid close contact with children<\/b> and wear a face mask<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          RSV Treatment<\/strong><\/h2>\n

          Currently, there is no specific antiviral treatment for RSV. Treatment focuses on symptom management, including:<\/p>\n

          • Administering fever-reducing medication<\/b><\/li>\n
          • Giving expectorants to help with mucus clearance<\/b><\/li>\n
          • Using bronchodilators<\/b> for wheezing symptoms<\/li>\n
          • In severe cases<\/b>, hospitalization may be required for close monitoring and care, including oxygen therapy, IV fluids, or mechanical ventilation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
