Early Symptoms of Breast Cancer

If you experience any of the following symptoms, do not ignore them. It is recommended to see a doctor for a detailed breast cancer screening immediately. Early treatment of breast cancer is most beneficial for the patient.

Early-stage breast cancer usually does not cause pain, but abnormalities in the breast may be detected, which could be early signs of breast cancer, such as:

• A lump in the breast (15-20% of palpable lumps in the breast are breast cancer)
• Changes in the size and shape of the breast
• Changes in the skin of the breast, such as dimpling, puckering, retraction, thickening, or scaling. Regular self-examination of the breasts is recommended.
• Nipple retraction, itching, or redness
• Discharge of blood or fluid from the nipple (20% of nipple discharge cases are found to be cancerous)
• Breast pain (most breast cancers do not cause pain unless the tumor is very large)
• Swelling in the armpit due to enlarged lymph nodes
• Early detection and treatment of breast cancer lead to better outcomes. Breast cancer can be prevented by regular self-examination and annual medical check-ups.
