Good health is like a priceless gift. Without regular care, it can lead to illnesses and serious diseases that are difficult to treat. This is especially true if there is a family history of hereditary diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension. Combined with environmental factors and changing lifestyles—such as eating habits, stress, smoking, and alcohol consumption—the risk of developing various diseases increases significantly.
A health checkup is not just about blood tests or X-rays. The most important aspect of a health screening is meeting with a doctor to detect abnormalities before symptoms appear or before a disease progresses, as treating a disease in its early stages yields much better results.
Preparation Before a Health Checkup
- Fast from food for at least 8–12 hours (plain water can be consumed in normal amounts).
- Fast from both food and water for at least 6 hours if undergoing an ultrasound.
- Wear clothing that allows easy access for blood collection at the crook of the arm.
- Get enough rest, at least 6–8 hours of sleep.
- For stool examinations (Stool Examination, Stool Occult Blood), avoid eating red meat, animal blood products, and Vitamin C supplements for at least 3 days.
- Women who are pregnant or suspect they might be pregnant should avoid X-rays or Mammograms.
- Pelvic exams or Cervical Cancer screenings should be performed at least 7 days after the last day of menstruation.
